Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? Where you’re from, and your work background?
I’m Romain (pronounced Roman, like the Empire) and I am originally from a small town called Sainte-Maxime, near Nice in France. After studying science and graduating from a Computer Science Master’s Degree, I started working for Ernst & Young (EY) in Paris where I specialised in digital transformation.
For five years I supported healthcare and government companies as a product manager until 2017 where I transferred to the EY Data and Analytics team in Sydney. I’ve been here for about four years and I’m well and truly in love with Australia. In fact, I’ll soon be a proud citizen of this beautiful country. 🙂
Why did you decide to come work at Geo? Tell us about your role here.
I’ve spent nearly a decade in consulting for large corporations and the opportunity to work in a smaller and fast-growing business where I could apply my experience and leadership skills to build a product that is loved by tradies really resonated with me. Particularly as I come from a family of tradies with my dad and granddad!
What’s your favourite thing about working with tradies? Any good feedback you can share?
My dad was a landscaper and handyman at a time when today’s technology was a dream away. I could see how painful it was for him to deal with the paperwork along with the extra hassle of coordinating work without digital technology. It slowed down the growth of his business and took valuable time away from our family.
It’s another reason why I’m glad to be at Geo. I’ve had the life of growing up in a busy tradie family. So being able to use my experience with product management and technology to make life easier for our customers and get their free time back is very satisfying.
I also love how down to earth our tradie customers are, which makes their feedback valuable and actionable as a product manager. All the customers that I’ve met so far are happy to help and provide direct and useful insights on how we can keep improving our product.
What’s coming up at Geo that you’re excited about working on? How will it help our customers?
Geo has recently raised several million dollars that will largely be invested in revamping the entire product, modernising our technical infrastructure to improve performance and bringing new exciting features to our customers that will focus on improving functionality, stability and ease of use.
In the coming months, our customers will start experiencing significant improvements on the performance side while seeing the interface being progressively modernised and enhanced. I am really excited about what’s coming up and to use my role as Head of Product to drive the right changes for our customers. Watch this space!
If you could work in any trade industry what would it be and why?
I think I would be a landscaper as I really like plants and making things look tidy. 🙂
How do you like to relax after a hard week of work?
Escaping the city for a camping trip or a weekend away somewhere near a beach.
What’s a random, quirky fun fact about you?
I am a huge fan of Tolkien. I have read The Lord of the Rings a dozen times and have seen the movies more times than I can count in my life.
If you could have any superpower what would it be and why?
Teleportation. Being able to travel anywhere instantly, as well as catching up with my family and friends in France whenever I want would be pretty awesome.
Electro. Can’t resist a bit of Daft Punk, Cassius or Justice.
Beer or wine?
I drink both, but if I had to choose it would definitely be wine (with some good cheese!).
